Welcome to Yates Primary

We are so glad you've come to visit our "little" corner of the world.  Yates happily serves approximately 400 of Cleveland's youngest citizens, pre-school through second grade. Our school is a warm, caring environment where young minds grow.  The parents and teachers have high expectations, and provide the support for each child to achieve their individual goals.
We invite you to come on in and visit our website, or better yet... our school. However, you need to be sure you're ready to learn, have fun, and smile while doing it!

Common Mission

The mission of Yates Primary School, in partnership with home and community, is to educate the whole child by nurturing and developing the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and ethical well being of every student.  It is our desire that through the mastery of academic skills and achievement of proficiency, each child reaches a level of personal success while acquiring a love for learning and developing a foundation for productive citizenship.

Beliefs

As the faculty, staff, parents, and community of Yates Primary School, we believe the following principles:
  • Children are of the utmost importance; therefore, we are committed to the needs of the individual student when developing curriculum, rules, policies, and programs.
  • Scientifically based techniques along with the use of technology will be used to meet the developmental, multi-cultural, physical, social, intellectual, and emotional needs of each student.
  • We will promote independent thinking and a life-long desire for learning, as we seek to instill positive self-confidence in each child.
  • A safe and supportive environment is provided to promote respect, self-discipline, responsibility, and citizenship so that each child may experience success.
  • Achievement will be determined by utilizing both formal and informal means of assessment, and will be used to monitor student progress and to assist in future planning.
  • High expectations of academic achievement should be implemented with the use of differentiated instruction.
  • Parental involvement is a key contributor to the success of our school.
  • Positive relationships among the school, home, and community will enhance the child’s self-esteem.
  • Decisions regarding the educational success of children are the collaborative responsibility of the home, school, and community.
  • Academic skills will be mastered through the use of a standards-based report card, which ensures reteaching and direct communication to parents about areas of need.
